Broadway Silks at 35-11 Broadway in Astoria is part fabric store morphing into an interesting boutique with unique and interesting gifts. The shop is still wonderful with the original floor and shelving piled high with fabrics but the interesting gift additions displayed artistically on the front shelves make this a great place to shop for one of a kind gifts. Prices are reasonable too!

Problems stemming from the super saturation of liquor licenses on 30th Avenue between 35th Street and 38th Streets have eased in recent years. The improved Quality of Life has a lot to do with Revelry and Onerio (the two most problematic night clubs) closing down. The 4 AM brawls and street fights are less frequent. Speeding performance cars is much greater, but thanks to installation of speed bumps on 36th Street high speed traffic has slowed considerably.
Fortunately the majority of the new cafes and restaurants are attractive additions to the community and operate in a responsible way. The few that don't can make life miserable for many residents such as the one who e-mailed NNA and sent the link below to petition for Noise problem at Don Coqui Club.
With ever increasing liquor licenses being approved for 30th Avenue and a high growth density of outdoor cafes, responsible cafe and restaurant owners are much appreciated.

Fantastic news! Speed Reduces to be installed in Norwod Gardens soon!
Astorians are seriously concerned about speeding vehicles on residential streets. Fatalities and costly damages due to excessive speed happen all too often. Reckless u...se of excessive speed along with crashes on 36th Street prompted NNA to ask Commissioner McCarthy to approve speed reducers before a child, adult or dog was killed.
Check them out! Yesterday 2 speed bump signs were installed on 36th Street and the pavement is marked for the reducers. NNA Facebook Page here!
Hopefully the racing and speeding will stop.
Thank you Commissioner McCarthy!

Call to Action!!
36th Street is having a MAJOR CHRONIC DOG POOP problem.
The great news is YOU can help by making a simple call to 311.
Be ready to tell the 311 sanitation specialist:
* Walking patterns of chronic poop offenders
* Time when you suspect walks occur
* Any other information that will help investigators know when and where to be on the look out.
NNA called today re chronic poop problem on 36th Street with big early morning leave behinds.
Please help. If you have anything to add re times, patters, etc. make a quick 311 call. All service requests are kept private. A copy can be e-mailed to norwood.astoria@gail.com and the association will follow up.
Dog poop harms tree's health, is bad for our own pet's health, goes into the water system, is nasty in our neighborhood, tracks germs into our homes. Help Stop who ever is doing this.
