Please check NNA Facebook page for current updates as this blog is not as active. Thank you.
Snow has turned to thick ice in the community alley between 36th and 37th Street and cars are stuck. Please e-mail NNA if you have interest in contributing to a community fund to pay for plowing of the alley and can help on a committee to coordinate such a project.
Help would be needed to contribute funds for plowing, collect funds from homeowners who park in the back or rent their garages out, to xerox and pass out fliers on plowing day.
Re present situation: in two areas bags of salt were poured into the tire tracks which melted snow in the tracks leaving the thick packed ice in the middle 6" higher than the tracks so cars get beached.

UPDATE RE SNOW REMOVAL IN COMMUNITY DRIVE: 8:51 PM March 3, 2015

NNA contacted three snow removal companies today as well as the department of sanitation re plowing the community drive. With cars parked on both sides of the drive, there is no place for the plow to put the snow therefore snow has to be trucked out. The estimate for one NNA drive would be in the $1000 range per heavy snow fall which seems out of our budgetary reach.

Describing the current situation with the thick ice, NNA asked about having the drive salted. This is NOT RECOMMENDED!! Citi Plowing said SALT WILL DAMAGE THE ROAD ESPECIALLY CONCRETE. They said to break ice would most likely require a bobcat
to break it up in pieces and take remove it.

Recommendations from professional snow removal companies:

·       Residents remove snow from drive ASAP after snow themselves or hire someone to remove it. If not removed promptly and then driven on it gets packed down and will turn to ice

·       Community invests in a powerful snow blower and has a contact person for hire to run the blower for those who can’t shovel or don’t want to shovel so their ½ of the easement is cleared after each snow fall
